NormaTec Story

Pneumatic Compression

NormaTec was started by Laura Jacobs, MD, Ph.D. in response to seeing a need for effective treatment modalities for patients with circulation compromised by disease, surgery, radiation treatment, and trauma. She recognized the powerful potential of external dynamic compression and its crucial role in healing and recovery. The concept of using external compression to aid the body with its normal circulatory processes has been around since the 1960s; however, the science of compression had no major technological advances during the first 40 years of its use. Not impressed with the results of existing compression pumps, Dr. Jacobs realized that the key component to the medicine and technology of compression is how we massage around the arms and legs. What was developed is a system that massages in a pattern that is so clinically significant, it’s patented and called Sequential Pulsed Technology. NormaTec is the only system in the world to incorporate a patented massage pneumatic waveform.
Sequential pulse technology is based on normal physiology, and it synergistically combines three distinctive massage techniques to speed the body’s normal recovery process:
NormaTec's Sequential Pulsed Technology
While a healthy athlete’s body eventually will recover from an intense workout, using the Sequential Pulse Technology found only in a NormaTec Recovery System for just 30 minutes can speed recovery.

NormaTec Compression

Benefits?

The NormaTec MVP and Pro are systems that provide dynamic compression. The system consists of a compression pump and various attachments that can be used to make the compression work for the arms, hips, and legs. It is scientifically proven to reduce inflammation and swelling and increase circulation in the body. Below is a list of some of NormaTec’s benefits:

  • Reduced pain and soreness
  • Faster recovery after exercise
  • Decreased swelling
  • Wider range of motion
  • Helps people with the following issues:
    • Soreness and cramping after exercise
    • Swollen legs and arms (including those with lymphedema)
    • Varicose veins

Leg Ulcers

According to WebMD, compression therapy is a very effective treatment for leg ulcers.

‌Ulcers are open wounds on the skin that can be hard to heal. Leg ulcers can be caused by:‌

  • Diabetes
  • Vein problems
  • Kidney failure
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease

Compression therapy helps heal ulcers by improving blood flow. During the healing process, compression therapy reduces the symptoms of leg ulcers, such as pain, swelling, and itching.

Up to 97% of people who have had leg ulcers will get another leg ulcer in the future. Compression therapy can help keep you from getting new leg ulcers.‌

What Does it Feel Like?

A Massage

The NormaTec leg sleeves inflate starting at the feet and gradually inflate by different zones until it reaches the upper thigh area. This is the initial calibration to determine the physicality of your legs and mold to your exact body shape. Then, the massage cycle begins as the compressed air is used to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery.
